Panpipes
In science class we were learning about sound. Eve and Rónán decided to try making a set of panpipes by following the instructions from our book. We used drinking straws which we cut all to different lengths. We placed them beside each other in order of length and stuck them together with sellotape. When you blow gently over the top of these you can hear a note. Each straw makes a different note. The air inside the straw vibrates to make the sound. The longest straw makes the lowest sound and the shortest straw makes the highest sound. We tried our panpipes for our class and they worked really well. Panpipes made from reeds are used by musicians all over the world. |
