March
Dates for your Diary:
Friday the 3rd of March; School closes at 12 noon.
Friday the 3rd of March: First Penance
Sunday the 5th of March: St. Kieran’s Day
Wednesday the 8th of March: Internet Safety Talk
Friday the 17th of March: School closed. (St. Patrick’s Day)
Monday the 27th of March: Board of Management meeting at 8pm.
St. Kieran’s Day: St. Kieran’s Day is a big day for our Parish. Father Reddan is very appreciative to all those who have responded back indicating their attendance or non-attendance, as this helps with the organisation for the day. We wish all those well, who are taking part in the St. Kieran’s Day celebrations.
First Penance: We wish all the boys and girls in 2nd class the very best, in celebrating their First Penance, this Friday night at 7.30pm. Many thanks to Ms. Kelly and Fr. Reddan who have prepared the boys and girls so well.
Clean Up; Míle buíochas to all those who turned up last Saturday morning to help with the clean up around our school and the roads approaching the school. Others were also doing great work around the St. Kieran’s well. The reality with schools is despite all the talk there is about funding Primary Education, schools like ours would be in no position to fund a caretaker so we are completely dependent on people’s good will to step up and volunteer. Many thanks again to all of you who gave up two hours of your Saturday morning to help out.
Cumann na mBunscol: These competitions will be starting up in the next few weeks. In preparation for them, we will be playing the odd challenge match. Today we are going to Dromakeenan to play Dromakeenans NS. Great credit goes to all the boys and girls who are so dedicated in having all their gear with them everyday, to go down to the field. They really are putting in a super effort. Well done boys and girls.
FAI Soccer Blitz: The boys and girls in 4th/5th/6th class will attend an FAI soccer blitz in Victoria Park, Tullamore on Wednesday the 7th of March. Again, if each child who is attending could bring in €5 each towards the cost of the bus, this would be much appreciated.
Levelled Reader Investment; The school is very thankful to our Board of Management and Parents Association for jointly funding the purchase of a comprehensive set of levelled readers which will be put to great use throughout the school in the teaching of literacy. This was a substantial investment, of over €5,000 and will no doubt prove to be an invaluable resource to the school.
Internet Safety Talk: Please note that Internet Safety Talk workshops will be taking place throughout the school on Wednesday the 8th of March. In the case of parents, you are all asked to take part in the webinar which will be delivered on the evening of Wednesday the 8th of March at 8pm. We will provide you with login details next week. As I have communicated in previous correspondence, I cannot stress enough the importance of participation in this webinar for all parents. While there are lots of positives to the internet and associated technology, there is so much as parents, all of us need to educate ourselves on, to protect our children. So please ensure that at least one parent from your home has set aside time to tune into this webinar.
Curriculum Evaluation: The report on our Curriculum Evaluation on PE with a response from the Board of Management is now up for public viewing on the gov.ie website.
HSE School Screening Service: On Wednesday the 29th of March the School Public Health Nurse will visit the school for Vision and Hearing screening for pupils from Junior Infants to 1st Class. Questionnaire/consent forms have been sent home to all of those pupils. For any other pupils in the school, if you have any concerns with regard to their hearing or vision please contact the school for a Questionnaire/consent form and you maybe able to have your child checked on the day.
Outstanding School Payments: We would appreciate it, if those who have not yet paid book rental/swimming etc. could organise to do so. It can be paid in instalments. Should anyone have any difficulties regarding same, please contact me.
