Confirmation: Congratulations to all the boys and girls in 5th/6th class who were confirmed on Sunday the 3rd of March. Míle buíochas to Ms. Murphy, Ms. Birmingham and Fr. Reddan who had them so well prepared. Thanks to Gerardine and Maríosa who also did so much in helping to prepare the boys and girls. Mairead and her choir also deserve huge credit for adding so much to the boys and girls special day. Well done all.
St. Kieran’s Day: This will take place, tomorrow the 5th of March. The whole school will be attending mass in the church at 10am. Those children in 4th/5th/6th will walk with parishioners to the holy sites, weather permitting.
Mini 7’s Blitz: The boys will be playing a mini 7’s hurling blitz in Coolderry tomorrow at 12.30pm.
First Penance: We wish our 2nd class all the best as they receive the sacrament of First Penance on Thursday the 21st of March. Many thanks to Ms. Kelly and Fr. Reddan for having the boys and girls so well prepared for this important sacrament.
School Closures: Please note the school closures on the 8th and the 18th of March. Please also note that school will close at 12noon on Friday the 22nd of March for the Easter Break and we will return to school on Monday the 8th of April.
150 Year Celebration: We are in the process of preparing for this celebration on the 14th of June. At this stage, the only thing we continue to seek from you are photographs of times past in the school. Any photographs you send in will be copied and return to you.
Children and Smartphones: Over the next couple of months, we will be surveying children, parents and teachers to gather all of our thoughts/opinions with regard to children’s use of smartphones and children’s activity online. More details regarding this whole process will follow after the Easter Break. I wish to stress the following from the outset – I have no interest in dictating to any of you what devices your child should or shouldn’t have and what they should be doing online. What we will simply be doing is engaging in a process, at the end of which we will be setting out agreed best practice for how we can all best provide for the children of Seir Kieran’s NS in todays online world. Whether you wish to be part of this agreed best practice at the end of the process is totally a matter for you. Further details will follow regarding the surveying of your thoughts, after the Easter Break.
Easter Raffle Cards: Our Parents Association Easter Raffle Cards will be sent home this week. This is an important fundraiser for our school. Each family is asked to make every effort they can to sell as many lines a s they can on a card. Should you require more cards, these can be requested from Gerardine in the office. Míle Buíochas to our Parents Association for all their hard work.
FAI Soccer Blitz: This takes place on the 12th of March. Ms. Murphy will issue all concerned with an email later in the week.
