Fáilte Romhaibh Ar Ais: We welcome everyone back to school after the Halloween break. We all look forward to a busy half term up to the Christmas break.
Primary Planets/Newsflash: Our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes receive these magazines every month. The magazines are of a huge educational benefit to the children as they not only benefit from reading but they also benefit from learning about the most up to date current affairs. We wish to thank our Board of Management and Parents Association for funding these magazines.
Christmas Cards: Each boy and girl in the school has designed his/her own Christmas card. The sample Christmas cards are being sent home with your children today. You can then purchase your child’s/children’s Christmas cards by ordering them online with the ‘Design A Card’ company. All the information will be on your child’s sample card. This is not a school fundraiser. The money which the company charges for cards is their business, the school is not adding anything to the costs. It is simply an opportunity for you to buy packs of cards, designed by your children, to send to loved ones this Christmas. All the boys’ and girls’ efforts in designing these cards are very impressive.
Christmas Show: All classes will be very busy over the next few weeks, preparing for our Christmas Show which will take place on Wednesday the 18th of December, in the Parish Hall. The show will also take place on Monday the 16th of December, where grandparents and members of the Active Retirement Group will be invited to come along. Further details around the show will be communicated to you, closer to the time.
Children’s/Family Masses: Please refer back to the letter sent out to you directly from Fr. Reddan, on the 21st of October, for comprehensive details of these masses. Please note that the first of these masses will take place, Saturday evening the 7th of December at 7.30pm. All children and their families from the school are invited to and indeed are encouraged to come along and participate in these masses.
Book Fair: From the week of Monday the 18th of November to Friday the 22nd of November, a book fair organised by Celtic books, is coming to the school. You will have the opportunity to buy books from the Book Fair, during this week. Some of the funds generated from these sales, will go directly to the school. Further information will be communicated to you, closer to the time. We thank Ms. Birmingham for organising all of this.
Fast Feet: Mile buíochas to Joanne Cushen (Offaly Sports Partnership) who lead in the running of the programme. The children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes will take part in an interschools competition in Drumcullen GAA Astro Turf facility on Monday the 11th of November. Each child involved in these classes are asked to make a €5 donation each towards the cost of the bus. This as always can be sent in, in a sealed envelope with relevant details marked on it. Thank you.
School Closure: A new Primary School Maths Curriculum is being rolled out in all schools at present. As part of this process, all teachers will engage in various inservice. Our school will be closed for all children on Friday the 8th of November to facilitate this inservice.
Parent Teacher Meetings: Parent Teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday the 27th of November. We hope to have seen many parents before the date itself as it simply would not be possible to see all on the day. With this in mind, we would appreciate it if you could indicate whether you would be in a position to see us on mornings over the next couple of weeks. You can email the school with the days of the mornings which you would be available to see us. Alternatively, you can send in a short note indicating the mornings you may be available to meet. Your help and cooperation in this regard would be much appreciated.
Enrolments: The Schools Admission notice is now published on our school website. This can be downloaded from our school website by clicking on the Enrolment tab. Please inform anyone who has a child due to begin school in September 2025 of this.
School Contribution: Many thanks to all those who have already furnished us with payment. We greatly appreciate it. Please pay online, if possible. To do this you can visit the school website @ seirkieransns.com, click on the school payments tab and in turn click on the payments link. If you experience any difficulties with this, please contact Gerardine in the office.
PA AGM; The PA AGM will take place on a date to be confirmed in early December. Our PA do wonderful work in supporting our school in so many ways in their work. A parent from each family is encouraged to attend this AGM. When the date is confirmed, I will let you know. I will address the meeting on the night.
Junior Infants to 3rd Class: Many thanks to all of those who have already paid €15 per child to go and see ‘Santa and the Three Little Pigs’ in Birr Theatre on Monday the 9th of December. If you haven’t already furnished payment for this, we would appreciate it if you could make payment as soon as possible. Again, many thanks to our Board of Management and Parents Association who are funding the bus to go to this show.
Birr Community School Show: 4th/5th and 6th classes will attend the show ‘Rock of Ages’ in Birr Community school on the night of Wednesday the 13th of November at 7.30pm. Tickets for the show cost €7. This can be sent in, in a sealed envelope with the relevant details marked on it, at your earliest convenience.
Christmas Shoe Box Appeal: Those who wish to participate in the Shoe Box Appeal should have their shoe boxes returned to the school tomorrow or you can order online at www.teamhope.ie
Christmas Annuals: If you wish to order a Christmas Annual for your children, please return the slip that is being sent home today together with €2.50 per annual. Please send this back in no later than this Tuesday the 12th of November.
Internet and Technology Use Agreement Contracts: To those who signed up to this agreement, these agreements are being sent home today with your children, so please check their school bags for them. Please retain these in a safe place in your homes, should you require to refer to it, with your child, in the future.
