April 2025
Dates for your Diary:
Saturday the 5th of April: Family Mass at 7.30pm
Thursday the 10th of April: Board of Management Meeting @ 8.30pm.
Friday the 11th of April: School closes @ 12pm for Easter Break
Monday the 5th of May: Bank Holiday – school closed
Easter Raffle Cards: Our Parents Association Easter Raffle Cards have been sent home. This is an important fundraiser for our school. Each family is asked to make every effort they can to sell as many lines as they can on a card. Should you require more cards, these can be requested from Gerardine in the office. Many thanks to those families who have returned their completed cards. Please return all cards on or before Tuesday the 8th of April. Míle Buíochas to our Parents Association for all their hard work.
Children’s/Family Masses: Please note that this mass will take place, Saturday evening the 5th of April at 7.30pm. All children and their families from the school are invited to and indeed are encouraged to come along and participate in these masses.
School Closures: Please note that school will close at 12noon on Friday the 11th of April for the Easter Break and we will return to school on Monday the 28th of April. Friday the 11th will be a casual day but there is no need for children to bring in a donation on this day.
School Tour: Our school tours will take place on Monday the 16th of June. In order to accurately price the tour, we need to know what children if any are not in a position to attend on this day (In other words, do you have holidays booked?) If your child(ren) will not be attending, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you.
Open Evening: We currently have 9 children beginning in Junior Infants in September 2025. We will be inviting the parents of these children to attend our Open Evening which will take place on Monday the 12th of May at 6.30pm. Should you know of any other parents of children who are due to begin Primary School in September and who may wish to view Seir Kieran’s NS, feel free to invite them to come along. Simply ask them to notify us of their intention to come.
GAA Coaching: GAA Coaching for all classes will resume on Tuesday the 8th of April and will take place each Tuesday from here on in. All classes are to bring in gear as is advised by their class teachers.
3rd to 6th – Going down on the pitch: Competitions in hurling and camogie will begin shortly. Thankfully we are enjoying much improved weather at present, so all children from 3rd to 6th class are encouraged to bring their hurley, helmet, boots and socks in with them each day, as we will try to get down at lunchtime. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays we will try to get down with the boys and older girls. On Wednesdays, it will be camogie only. On Fridays we will play soccer.
FAI Soccer Blitz: Well done to our girls and boys in 5th/6th class who competed in the recent FAI blitz in Tullamore. The boys won their 3 group games and lost out to a very strong Boher NS side in the play-off to qualify for the finals day.
Cumann na mBunscol: These competitions will begin shortly. You will be furnished with dates and times of matches/blitzes, as soon as they are confirmed.
Most Enterprising Student Awards: Good luck to the 5th class girls with their company ‘Crazy Cakes’ at the Most Enterprising Student awards in Tullamore on April 3rd.
Scrap Metal Collection; This proved to be a big success. We are currently awaiting confirmation for our final figure on all raised as a result of the collection. As soon as we know the figure, we will communicate this to you. Míle buíochas to all those who contributed Colm Makim really put in a trojan effort in organising all and great credit goes to him. Also, John Kirwan, the chairperson of our board deserves huge credit also for all his hard work on so many levels. Schools would just collapse without volunteers like John, they are the whole backbone of the Primary Education system. Others who gave a big help out on the day of the collection include Michael John Corrigan, Joseph Bergin and Tony Makim. Thanks a million lads.
School Garden; Just to update all, we met with Offaly Local Development Company and arising out of this, we are hopeful enough of securing some public funding for the project. We appreciate Cllr. Audrey Kennedy linking us up with this source in our efforts to secure public funding. Like everything though this is not straight forward and we have a few hoops to jump through first. If all went well for us, we would only be in a position to officially apply for the funding in October so with that in mind, that pushes the garden project out until next year. As is always the case when we have more to report to you, we will. In so far as we can we will ring fence the money we have received from the scrap metal collection for the garden project but with direct funding to run schools on a daily basis being so poor, we can not give any guarantees on this. If the money is required to keep the school operational, it will be used., as this takes precedence over any projects we may have.
