April
Dear Parents,
Dates for your Diary:
Thursday the 15th of April: School hurling/camogie coaching begins.
Fáilte Romhaibh ar ais: All the boys and girls are very welcome back after the Easter break.
Just be sensible and responsible: To date you have all been brilliant in how you have approached dealing with Covid 19 in the context of our school. We have received your full co-operation with all Public Health Advice which has been advanced to us. As parents you have also been very responsible and sensible when it comes to sending your children into school when it comes to Covid. Where children have symptoms, parents have kept their children at home. Parents have also been very sensible and responsible in how they have approached the issue of close contacts. I have really appreciated parents keeping children at home where other people within the household have been deemed close contacts. It only makes sense that you would do this. We want to keep our school open, so we want to eliminate anything which maybe potential risk to this. All I ask is that you continue in the same vein as you have to date and this will give us the best possible chance of remaining open.
Absences and Illnesses: Should your child be absent from school, continue to send in a note as you usually would. Also go onto the school website, click on the ‘Return to School Form’, click on the link provided here, fill in this form and submit it. It won’t take five minutes. Public Health is insisting that these be done, before your child returns to school. Your co-operation is much appreciated in this regard.
Hurling/Camogie Coaching: Hurling/camogie coaching will begin this Thursday the 15th of April and take place every Thursday until the end of the school year. This year we are delighted to welcome Aidan Clancy on board. Adrian is a full time coach who has been employed by Seir Kieran’s GAA Club, Drumcullen GAA Club and Birr GAA club, in conjunction with Leinster Council. We in the school very much appreciate Seir Kieran GAA club putting this in place for us. While there will be of course a hurling and camogie element to the coaching, a huge emphasis will be placed on fundamental skills and movement as well as building up fitness levels in our children. Therefore hurling and camogie won’t be completely dominating lessons. In this context, children from Juniors to 3rd class will not be bringing hurleys or gear to school this Thursday. 4th, 5th and 6th class are to bring the usual gear – hurley, helmet, a change of socks and old runners/football boots. The teacher in your child’s class will make you aware of the Thursdays in which your child is to bring hurley/helmet/gear into school.
First Holy Communion: We have nothing to report on a First Holy Communion date. It is expected that if things continue in the right direction, a phased reopening of churches may take place in May. So if this does happen, this may lead to a possibility of First Holy Communion taking place after that point. At this stage it is impossible to fix a date but when we are in a position to bring certainty to the issue, we will do that. You can rest assured that as parents you will be fully consulted before fixing a date.
School Fence: The timber fence on the school grounds has been falling into poor repair over time. John Kirwan and his father carried out much needed works on the fencing over a few Saturdays. They did this in a voluntary capacity and we very much appreciate this. Some of the fencing required to be taken down and John again alongside Paddy Connors and Ray Ryan took down this fencing and erected new fencing. Again all the labour was in a voluntary capacity. Your good will and generosity is much appreciated. Thanks a million lads.
School Spraying: The grounds of the school need to be sprayed to prevent weeds from taking over. On Wednesday the 21st of April at 6.30pm I am asking a few volunteers with knapsacks to make themselves available. On this evening if we have enough bodies we should wipe out whatever spraying is required in a couple of hours. Please let Gerardine know in the office, if someone from you house could give a couple of hours. From then, I will organise how we will go about it in a safe, organised manner.
Labelling of clothes and gear: You are reminded that you should have all your child’s belongings clearly labelled. With weather getting warmer, children will take off their jumpers. If your child’s jumper is not clearly labelled, it makes it very difficult to reunite him/her with his/her jumper. Please take a little time out to label all your children’s belongings.
Míle buíochas daoibh go léir: Paddy Connors wishes to thank all of you who contributed to the school’s Jersey Day in March. €577.50 was raised for what is a fantastic cause. The Sky Dive Jump has been postponed until May, so Paddy has to bite on them nails for a little longer! Your support is much appreciated.
