The Amber Flag Initiative
The Pieta House Amber Flag initiative recognises the individual efforts of schools, companies and groups to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being, and unites these groups in their efforts, working together toward a happier, healthier Ireland and eradicate the stigmas associated with mental health issues.
In order to promote positive mental health and well-being at Seir Kieran's N.S., we have decided to take part in the Amber Flag Initiative. This involves the whole school community coming together in order to create a safe, positive and healthy attitude towards our general physical and mental health and well-being. We have some great ideas on how to do this:
We will document our activities here.

This involves the whole school community coming together in order to create a safe, positive and healthy attitude towards our general physical and mental health and well-being. We have some great ideas on how to do this:
- An Amber Flag Committee led by students from each classroom
- Well being policy for school
- Rainbow Day
- Sensory Garden
- Wellness Week
- Create an Amber Flag notice board in the hall with a positive ‘Affirmation of the Week' and 'Anthem of the Week'
We will document our activities here.
Wellbeing Week
Here at Seir Kieran's N.S., we strive to promote mental health in the classroom, to teach children about wellbeing and to instill positive attitudes towards mental health in our pupils. While well-being activities are integrated into the school day throughout the year, we take some extra time to highlight the importance of wellbeing during this special week.
The aim of this week is to foster positive mental health and wellbeing in our wider school community. Our student wellbeing committee came up with some ideas from pupils for our Wellbeing Week and how they would like to mark our fundraising day, as part of the Amber Flag initiative we are working towards. 'Anything but a Bag Day' was the clear winner!
We also have a Wellbeing menu attached here in case pupils choose to practice some optional wellbeing activities at home. Alternatively you may like to just spend this week as a family engaging in any enjoyable activities of your choice that enhance your physical and mental health.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind our whole school community to prioritise your wellbeing too and try to take some extra time this week to focus on what makes you feel happy & supports your own wellbeing.
